Description

EMM London Private Office is delighted to present one of the most iconic future classic Ferraris built, inspired by Ferrari's rich heritage, the Monza SP2. As part of the uber-exclusive Icona range these car were offered to only the very top of the loyal Ferrari client list. With just 499 examples built world-wide, just seeing one of these cars could be considered a miracle, let alone finding one available for sale with delivery mileage.

The SP (Special Project) is no exaggeration; these cars are special. From almost any angle the inspiration of the racers that once entered into gruelling races such as the Mille Miglia are perfectly clear. Ferrari collector icons such as the 750 & 860 Monza, 250 TR and 166MM were all part of the inspiration that designer Flavio Manzoni gorged himself on when designing the stunning SP1 and SP2.

All 499 cars are powered by the 799bhp 6.5 litre Ferrari V12 engine which delivers its biggest punch at an astonishing 8,500rpm. At the time of launch in 2019, this was the most powerful factory V12 ever produced by Ferrari, until the birth of the 812 Competizione delivering 820bhp.

The chassis is very loosely based on the 812, but thanks to carbon fibre composite body panels using the same production techniques as the F1 team, the Monza weighs in at just 1500/1520kg SP1/SP2 offering blisteringly fast performance.

This delivery mileage Atelier Monza is finished in a very rare and striking colour combination of Grigio Ferro over Pelle Iroko leather, complementing perfectly with its nod to historic racing models. This is the more sensibly optioned SP2 which are already showing a small positive arbitrage in price over the rather lonely seated SP1, and to our minds, will be the car to collect going forward. The SP1 just looks a little imbalanced, despite its more "racer" looking visual credentials. Ferrari won't reveal the actual split of SP1/SP2 suffice to say, each customer could only pick one.

This UK delivered Monza SP2 has covered just 35 delivery miles and presents as brand new as you'd expect. It still has some of the PDI plastics covering some of the impact areas, such as around the pedals with the subtle scent of leather.

Investment View

Without doubt the SP1/SP2 represents a solid investment anything under £3m (or equivalent) driven largely by low production numbers, a carefully considered "invitation only" client list and the Monza being the very first of the Ferrari Special Projects Icona range inspired by Ferrari's delicious back catalogue. Additionally, being a UK delivered car, we believe (though never published by Ferrari) from our sources that just 41 cars were sold into the UK.

Whilst critics say modern supercars are too soft, too quiet and too easy to drive every day, here is a car that goes against every grain. Ferrari quote the top speed simply as "over 186mph", almost daring you to try to exceed it without a windscreen. The Monza has 800bhp and weighs in at just 1500kg, you're almost seated on the back axle staring down the long swooping bulged bonnet which houses that evocative V12, and you can only drive it on a dry day. This car is all about the experience of driving in a way a lot of modern overly sanitised cars can't deliver. It's the wind in your hair, the raucous open exhaust note at 8500rpm a metre away and a sense of plain, analogue, a connectivity between man and machine.

This is one of the ultimate investment-grade collector Ferraris, as seen in many dominant big collections around the world. When Ferrari eventually stop making the V12, and they will, the Laf replacement is rumoured to be a V6 for example, this will shine light favourably on the best of the best V12s, and the Monza is most certainly one of them.

Opportunities like this are rare.

Viewing this car can be arranged in south west London strictly by appointment.
