Car Sales
Description
For sale exclusively with EMM London private office is this stunning 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible. This car's specification is in a very rare combination being a 289 GT, 4 speed manual with a factory power hood, power brakes, power steering, Woodgrain Deluxe dash option, a Pony Interior and a white convertible roof. This car also has the beautiful chrome Mustang Magnum 5 lug wheels which are just so much nicer than the steels and hubcap on the standard car.
As with all GT Mustangs the car boasts front disc brakes, twin trumpet exhausts, 5 dial dash, "Mustang" wing emblems with white stripe, unique to the 1966 a "GT" fuel filler, a thicker anti-roll bar and front fog lights in the grill. Given convertible GT mustangs contribute to only three percent of all Mustangs produced, this makes this car very rare and perfect for any collector looking to acquire a great piece of American muscle motoring history. There are currently no comparable cars for sale in the UK (correct as of 12th April 2023).
The condition of this car would be described as excellent having benefited from a full restoration in 2016 and a respray in 2022 caused by shipping scratches. The exterior Ford Motorsport Burgundy shines beatifully against the chrome, whilst inside the car presents literally as new.
We understand from the owner that the engine was upgraded to the "Ford Motorsport" spec when it was rebuilt which has resulted in a very quick revving V8 that delivers bags of power. The close ratio 4 speed manual gearbox marries perfectly to the smooth and torquey 289 (4.7 litre) V8 engine and will provide hours of roof down fun in the upcoming Summer sun.
Unfortunately some of the history relating to the work was lost when the British owner moved twice in the US, then back to the UK in 2021. However, he did manage to locate the matching tonnaeu cover which of course is included with the car.
We love the modern practical comforts of having a stunning American classic with power steering, power brakes and a power hood which make this car an absolute joy to own and drive (even on a daily basis) which adds to its appeal being a car with out many of the shortfalls of most overly fragile classic cars.
The car has also been fitted with an easily removeable classic car Bluetooth radio and under dash speakers upgraded. Just perfect to play your favourite Tom Petty number, roof down in the summer sun. The original radio is in place but disconnected. An option (and is what we would do) is have the original Mustang radio converted to Bluetooth maintaining the perfect 1960's look, but all the benefits of 2023.
