Description

EMM London is exclusively marketing this stunning Aston Martin DB5 Superleggera finished in the rare combination of Goodwood Green over Tan hides. Thanks to a certain spy film, the DB5 has become one of the most famous 60s grand tourers on the planet.

This DB5 was first sold on the 7th February 1964 to a Mr Levey of Levey's Wallpaper Stores in Northumberland in the requested and rare colour today of Goodwood Green. Some 22 years later the car was acquired by Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan to add to his personal collection. A detailed and very extensive restoration was carried out bringing the car up to concours standard for his use. In 1998 it was passed to another Geneva collector who owned the car until 2015 when it was purchased by a UK based collector/seller and subjected to a nut & Bolt restoration by well-known Aston restorers Pugsley & Lewis. The work carried out in 2015 included a full body strip and repaint in the factory colour of Goodwood Green, a complete retrim in Natural coloured Connolly Hides and the period correct Wilton carpets laid throughout. The scent of fresh leather inside this DB5 is deeply evocative, harking back to a time when driving was a pleasure.

The Aston's 4 litre straight 6 also had a mechanical refurbishment by Pugsley & Lewis where it was converted to run relaibly on modern unleaded fuels, plus also benefited from a new clutch whilst the engine and transmission were out, brand new 15 inch chrome spoke wheels and period correct Avon tyres. With such high standard of workmanship, no surprises the engine bay still presents in an almost concours standard today.

Accompanying this car is a comprehensive service history file which includes the factory build sheet, all the works invoices detailing the 1986 restoration and those completed more recently in 2015. The documentation also includes a 1964 Aston Martin Factory Brochure, Aston Martin DB5 Owner’s Manual and original factory jack among other items.

The current owner has cared for the car without sparing any expense. To make the car more useable he asked Clayton Classics to sympathetically update the car. They started by updating the a/c system to a modern R134a twin evaporator system whilst still maintaining the original features, we can vouch for the fact it's icey cold, electronic steering column power assistance, a higher output historical matching alternator was fitted, along with a Bluetooth music system and USB charging ports built into the centre armrest and glove box, remote central locking and brighter more modern headlight bulbs, all at huge expense. Being honest the hidden and easily removeable upgrades make the car much more fun and useable to drive

On recent inspection, the alloy ‘Superleggera’ bodywork remains in outstanding condition, and the Goodwood Green finish is wonderfully glass flat and shiny. The front end up to the windscreen has been treated to PPF (paint protection film) by experts Topaz Detailing, just after the car was restored.

One of the greatest. most iconic Astons made presented in a striking colour combination, sympatehically updated for pleasure and ease of use. This car was proudly displayed at London Concours in 2022 and would sit well on almost any prestigious lawn at any event.

Opportunities to purchase a DB5 at this price are rare, so we would advise seizing this oppotunity. The car is available for viewing exclsuively with EMM London, please request an appoitment with one of the team.
